Short Cut French Onion Soup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 roll of crusty French bread or baguette .
  • 100 g comte cheese .
  • 30 ml cognac (optional) or kirsch (optional) or whiskey (optional) .
  • 1 (10 oz) can of ready-made onion soup

Directions
  • Step #1 Prepare the onion soup according to the can directions.
  • Step #2 Cut the bread into 1 inch thick slices shaped to fit into the top of an onion soup bowl.
  • Step #3 Toast on both sides.
  • Step #4 If desired, stir an alcohlic spirit into the soup (my favourite is cognac).
  • Step #5 Ladle the soup into two oinion soup bowls.
  • Step #6 Top with toasted rounds.
  • Step #7 Spread grated cheese on top of the toast; place under broiler.
  • Step #8 Broil until the cheese is melted & golden.
  • Step #9 Serve immedidately.
