Tart Cherry Lattice Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp milk .
  • 1 (9 inch) pastry for double-crust pie .
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract .
  • 1/3 c all-purpose flour .
  • 4 c fresh pitted unsweetened tart red cherries or unsweetened frozen pitted tart cherries, thawed & drained .
  • 1 1/3 c sugar .
  • 2 tbsps butter, cut into small pieces .
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 In large bowl, mix sugar & flour; stir in the cherries & extract.
  • Step #2 Line a 9-inch pie plate with bottom pastry, trim to 1 inch beyond edge of plate.
  • Step #3 Pour filling into crust.
  • Step #4 Dot with butter.
  • Step #5 Roll out remaining pastry; make a lattice crust.
  • Step #6 Seal & flute edges.
  • Step #7 With pastry brush, brush milk on top crust; sprinkle crust with sugar.
  • Step #8 Cover up edges loosely with foil wrap.
  • Step #9 Bake at 425F degrees F for 20 mins.
  • Step #10 Reduce heat to 375 degrees F.
  • Step #11 Remove foil wrap; bake 20-25 mins longer or until crust is golden brown & filling is bubbly.
  • Step #12 Cool on wire rack.
