Cincinnati Chili Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 onions, sliced fine .
  • 1 pinch paprika .
  • 2 c chicken broth .
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil .
  • 1/4 tsp allspice .
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano .
  • 2 tsps dark brown sugar .
  • 1 tsp salt, plus more to taste .
  • 1 1/2 lbs extra lean ground beef .
  • 2 tbsps tomato paste .
  • 1 garlic clove, minced .
  • 2 c canned tomato sauce .
  • 2 tbsps chili powder .
  • 2 tbsps cider vinegar .
  • 3/4 tsp pepper .
  • 1 1/2 tsps cinnamon

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat oil in Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  • Step #2 Cook onions in oil until soft & browned around edges, about 8 mins.
  • Step #3 Add garlic, cinnamon,1 tsp salt, chili powder, tomato paste, oregano, pepper & allspice.
  • Step #4 Cook until fragrant, about 1 min.
  • Step #5 Stir in chicken broth, tomato sauce, vinegar & sugar.
  • Step #6 Add beef & stir this to break up meat.
  • Step #7 Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low & let simmer until chili is deep brown & slightly thickened, 15 to 20 mins.
  • Step #8 Spice up with salt.
  • Step #9 Serve over a bed of cooked spaghetti.
  • Step #10 Top with oyster crackers, warmed canned beans, coarsly sliced onion & grated cheddar cheese.
  • Step #11 Add a pinch of paprika atop the cheese.
