Chocolate Torte Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c baking cocoa .
  • 1 c butter, softened .
  • 1 c heavy whipping cream .
  • 1 c butter, cubed .
  • FROSTING .
  • 4 eggs .
  • 2 1/2 c sugar .
  • 1/2 c heavy whipping cream .
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder .
  • 2 1/2 c confectioners' sugar .
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract .
  • 2 tsps baking soda .
  • 1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips .
  • 2 c boiling water .
  • 1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • FILLING .
  • 1/4 c confectioners' sugar .
  • 2 3/4 c all-purpose flour

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large mixing bowl, cream butter & sugar.
  • Step #2 Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Step #3 Beat in vanilla.
  • Step #4 Whisk cocoa & water until smooth.
  • Step #5 Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder & salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with cocoa mixture.
  • Step #6 Beat until smooth.
  • Step #7 Pour into three greased & floured 9" round baking pans.
  • Step #8 Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 mins or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Step #9 Cool for 10 mins; remove this from pans to wire racks.
  • Step #10 FILLING:.
  • Step #11 In a mixing bowl, beat cream, confectioner's sugar & vanilla on high speed until soft peaks form.
  • Step #12 Chill until firm.
  • Step #13 FROSTING:.
  • Step #14 In a saucepan, melt chips & butter over med-heat/flame; stir in the cream.
  • Step #15 Remove from the heat; stir in the confectioner's sugar.
  • Step #16 Chill for at least 1 hr or until completely cooled.
  • Step #17 Beat with electric mixer to achieve spreading consistency.
  • Step #18 PREP:.
  • Step #19 Spread half of the filling over one cake layer; top this with second layer & remaining filling.
  • Step #20 Top with third layer; frost top & sides of cake.
  • Step #21 Chill for 2 hrs before cutting.
  • Step #22 Yield: 12 servings.
