1/2 c unsweetened apple juice (or use 1/4 c each apple sauce & juice) .
1/4 tsp black pepper (or to taste) .
6 pork chops or boneless skinless chicken breasts .
1/2 c brown sugar .
1/2 tsp ginger powder .
2 tsps cornstarch .
1/4 tsp salt (or to taste) .
1/4 c cold water .
1/4 c vegetable oil .
1 tbsp soy sauce .
1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional) .
1/4-1/2 tsp garlic powder (or to taste)
Directions
Step #1 In a small saucepan mix brown sugar, salt, ginger powder, garlic powder, soy sauce, apple juice, oil, pepper & cayenne (if using); bring to a boil over medium-low heat stirring until sugar is completely dissolved (about 4 mins) & the mixture is at a light simmer.
Step #2 In a small c mix together 1/4 c water & cornstarch; add to the mixture & whisk over low heat/flame until thickened; remove this from heat & cool completely (at this point it may be put in the fridged).
Step #3 After the sauce has cooled completely place the pork chops or chicken on a large plate.
Step #4 Remove a little sauce to a separate bowl to brush onto the meat.
Step #5 Brush liberally with the sauce on both sides; cover meat & chill for 6 hrs or up to 24 hrs, put in the fridge the remaining sauce to baste the meat with later.
Step #6 Grill the pork chops or chicken brushing with the remaining sauce while grilling or towards the end of the grilling time.
