Ingredients
2 c whole milk
4 tbsps butter
2 tsps dried sage
2 tsps lemon juice
10 fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 tsp salt
2 tsps lemon zest
4 tbsps sliced fresh parsley
2 tbsps all-purpose flour
24 small onions
2 pinches paprika
Directions
Step #1 Peel onions a trim slightly at the top & bottom.
Step #2 Boil the onions carefully in salted water until tender (about 30 mins).
Step #3 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step #4 Butter one shallow baking dish.
Step #5 Saute the sliced mushrooms in the butter or margarine.
Step #6 Stir in the flour.
Step #7 Stir in the half & half or milk, sage, salt, 1/2 of the lemon peel & all of the lemon juice.
Step #8 Cook, stirring over med-heat/flame until sauce thickens.
Step #9 Place the cooked onions in the prepared baking dish & pour the mushroom sauce over them.
Step #10 Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 20 mins.
Step #11 Sprinkle top the top this with the sliced parsley, remaining lemon peel & paprika to taste.
