Print Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c sifted flour .
  • 4 tbsps cold water (some folks use 2 Tbsp water & 2 Tbsp milk, but Mom prefers the taste of the crust with all water) .
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt .
  • 1/2 c cooking oil (Mom uses canola)

Directions
  • Step #1 Sift the flour & salt into a large mixing bowl.
  • Step #2 In a separate bowl, mix the oil & water (and milk, if using 2 Tbsp water & 2 Tbsp milk).
  • Step #3 Pour liquid mixture all at once into the sifted mixture, & then - with your hands - press the dough into a smooth ball.
  • Step #4 Be careful not to overwork the dough or it can become tough; it will be somewhat crumbly & soft.
  • Step #5 To use, press the dough into the pie shell & shape the edges into flutes with your fingers.
  • Step #6 If there are thin spots, the dough is soft enough to easily to press extra into them with no worries.
  • Step #7 Note: use any left over pieces of dough by baking them into little snack crackers.
