Corned Beef And Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients
  • horseradish sauce .
  • 1 celery rib, cut into large chunks .
  • 6 black peppercorns .
  • 6 lbs corned beef brisket .
  • 1 carrot, cut into large chunks .
  • 2 bay leaves .
  • 1 head green cabbage, cored .
  • 1 garlic clove .
  • 4 cloves .
  • 2 onions, sliced

Directions
  • Step #1 Place the corned beef In a large-ish pot & cover with water.
  • Step #2 Simmer for 1 hr, skimming off any foam that forms on the surface of the water.
  • Step #3 Pour off the water & cover with fresh water.
  • Step #4 Add the onions, cloves, carrot, bay leaves, peppercorns, garlic, & celery.
  • Step #5 Cover up & let simmer for 3 to 4 hrs or until the meat is tender.
  • Step #6 Cut the cabbage into 6 wedges & place on top of the meat.
  • Step #7 Cover up & let simmer until tender, about 15 mins.
  • Step #8 Remove the cabbage with a slotted spoon & keep warm.
  • Step #9 Remove the meat from the cooking liquid & let this stand on a serving platter for 15 mins.
  • Step #10 Cut into thin slices across the grain.
  • Step #11 Serve with the cabbage & pass the horseradish sauce at the table.
