Chicken-leek Strata Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp sliced fresh dill weed or 1 tsp dried dill weed .
  • 1/4 tsp pepper .
  • 1 c sliced leeks .
  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine .
  • 2 c shredded mozzarella cheese .
  • 1 c sliced cooked chicken or turkey .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 4 eggs, beaten .
  • 2 c milk .
  • 8 slices French bread, each 1/2 inch thick

Directions
  • Step #1 Melt butter in 1-quart saucepan over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #2 Cook leeks in butter about 3 mins, stirring frequently, until softened; remove this from heat.
  • Step #3 Cut enough bread into 1-inch cubes to measure 5 c.
  • Step #4 Mix bread cubes, leeks, chicken & dill weed.
  • Step #5 Spread bread mixture in ungreased square baking dish, 8x8x2 inches.
  • Step #6 Sprinkle top with cheese.
  • Step #7 Mix remaining ingredients; pour over cheese.
  • Step #8 Cover up tightly & put in the fridge at least 4 hrs but no longer than 24 hrs.
  • Step #9 Heat oven to 325°F Uncover & bake 50 to 55 mins or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Step #10 Let stand 10 mins before cutting.
