Chinese Style Steamed Fish Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 slices fresh ginger root, finely sliced
  • crushed red pepper flakes to taste
  • 1 1/2 lbs halibut, cut into 4 pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1/8 c water
  • fresh cilantro sprigs, for garnish
  • 2 fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 green onions, cut into 3 inch lengths
  • 6 leaves napa cabbage, sliced into 4 inch pieces

Directions
  • Step #1 Arrange 1/2 of the green onions on the bottom of the steaming bowl (it is important to steam in a container in order to retain the steam & juices around the fish).
  • Step #2 Place 1/2 of the mushrooms & Napa cabbage sections on top of the onions.
  • Step #3 Place fish on top of the vegetables.
  • Step #4 Sprinkle top ginger, garlic, & red pepper flakes over fish.
  • Step #5 Top with the remaining green onions, mushrooms, & napa cabbage.
  • Step #6 Drizzle soy sauce & water over everything.
  • Step #7 Place steam bowl in a steamer over 1 inch of boiling water, & cover.
  • Step #8 Steam for 15 to 20 mins, or until fish flakes easily.
  • Step #9 Garnish with cilantro, if desired.
