Mushroom Turnovers Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c flour .
  • Filling .
  • 1 egg yolk .
  • 1/4 tsp paprika .
  • Dough .
  • 2/3 c shortening .
  • 2 tbsps butter .
  • 3 tbsps grated cheddar cheese .
  • 1/2 tsp butter .
  • 1/2 lb mushrooms .
  • 3 green onions .
  • 1/16 tsp pepper .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard .
  • 4 tbsps ice water .
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Cut Shortning into dry ingredients.
  • Step #2 Stir in cheese.
  • Step #3 Add water, mixing with fork.
  • Step #4 Roll into ball & wrap in wax paper.
  • Step #5 Chill dough.
  • Step #6 Wash dry & chop mushrooms & green onion.
  • Step #7 Saute in melted butter.
  • Step #8 Remove from heat, stir in the seasoning & slightly beaten egg yolk.
  • Step #9 Cool.
  • Step #10 Preheat oven to 425.
  • Step #11 Roll out pastry on lightly floured board to 1/8" thickness.
  • Step #12 Cut into 3" circles or rectangles.
  • Step #13 Place heaping tsps of filling in center.
  • Step #14 Dampen edges of pastry.
  • Step #15 Fold over & seal with fork.
  • Step #16 Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Step #17 Cut small vents for steam.
  • Step #18 Brush tops with left over egg white or milk.
  • Step #19 Bake 15 min or until nicely brown.
