Baked Ziti Casserole Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3 oz Italian tomatoes .
  • 2 c mozzarella cheese .
  • 1/4 c Butter Buds, liquid .
  • 1 lb ziti pasta .
  • 6 oz tomato paste .
  • 1 tsp sugar .
  • 1/2 tsp basil .
  • 1/4 tsp pepper .
  • 1/4 tsp pepper .
  • 2 tbsps parsley .
  • 1 c onions, finely sliced .
  • 32 oz ricotta cheese .
  • 3 Egg Beaters egg substitute .
  • 1 tsp oregano .
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced .
  • 1 (2 lb) can Italian tomatoes, plus .
  • 1 tbsp parsley .
  • 1/2 c parmesan cheese

Directions
  • Step #1 To make sauce:.
  • Step #2 In a 6-quart pot, saute onion & garlic in liquid butter buds.
  • Step #3 Add undrained tomatoes, sugar, oregano, 1 1/2 c water, 2 tbsps parsley, tomato paste, basil & pepper.
  • Step #4 Mix well.
  • Step #5 Mash tomatoes.
  • Step #6 Simmer covered but stirring every once in awhile for 1 hr.
  • Step #7 Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  • Step #8 Cook ziti as package directs.
  • Step #9 Make cheese layer: In large bowl, parsley, 1/4 c parmesan, mix ricotta, 1 c mozzarella, egg beaters, & pepper.
  • Step #10 Beat with wooden spoon until mixed.
  • Step #11 Spoon a little sauce into a 5-quart casserole dish (or 2 9-inch square dishes) that have been sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Step #12 Layer 1/3 ziti, cheese mixture, & remaining sauce.
  • Step #13 Sprinkle top part of the remaining mozzarella on top.
  • Step #14 Repeat layers 2 times, ending with mozzarella & 1/4 c parmesan.
  • Step #15 Bake uncovered 45 mins.
