Ingredients
1/4 c natural bran .
1/2 c unsalted butter, chilled .
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour .
1/4 c brown sugar .
2 tsps baking powder .
2 tsps cinnamon .
1 tsp salt .
2/3 c sliced dates .
2/3 c buttermilk .
1/2 c whole wheat flour .
1/2 tsp baking soda .
1 egg
Directions
Step #1 Combine the all-purpose & whole wheat flours, salt, baking powder, the bran, soda, cinnamon & brown sugar.
Step #2 Cut in the butter.
Step #3 (Or mix in a food processor/blender, just until crumbly.
Step #4 ) Add the egg, buttermilk, & dates; do not overmix.
Step #5 (If the dough seems too sticky to work with add a couple more tbsps flour.
Step #6 ) Shape the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick on a floured surface.
Step #7 Cut into 12 triangles.
Step #8 Bake on an ungreased baking sheet in a preheated 350 degree F oven about 25 mins.
Step #9 Cool on a rack.
