Savory Beef Stew Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 small turnips, sliced .
  • 1 lb lean sirloin steaks, cut in cubes .
  • 2 red potatoes, cubed .
  • 2 tbsps flour .
  • 1/2 lb small mushrooms .
  • 1 c baby carrots .
  • 1 bay leaf .
  • 1 c beef broth .
  • 1/2 c Burgundy wine (or other red) .
  • 1 red onion, cut into eighths lengthwise .
  • 3 stalks celery

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat oven to 500 degrees.
  • Step #2 Place flour in a zip lock baggie & put beef cubes in bag.
  • Step #3 Close & shake to cover all beef cubes with flour.
  • Step #4 Place floured cubes in an oven-proof pan sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Step #5 Cook in 500 degree oven for about 20 mins, until browned.
  • Step #6 Remove from oven & let cool on stovetop for 5 mins.
  • Step #7 Gradually add broth & wine to pan & stir this to loosen browned bits.
  • Step #8 Add onion celery, & bay leaf.
  • Step #9 Cook covered on medium low heat for about 1 hr until beef is tender.
  • Step #10 Add carrots,turnips, cleaned mushrooms & cubed potatoes.
  • Step #11 Cook 20 - 25 mins or until vegetables are tender.
  • Step #12 Add more broth if mixture becomes too dry.
