Ingredients
  • 1 c unsalted butter (room temperature) .
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt .
  • 2 large eggs .
  • 1 1/4 c granulated sugar .
  • 2 1/4 tsps baking soda .
  • 3/4 c dark brown sugar .
  • 2 1/4 c buttermilk .
  • 6 oz semisweet chocolate (fine quality, melted) .
  • 1 1/2 tsps pure vanilla extract .
  • 2 1/2 c all-purpose flour .
  • 1 c Dutch-processed cocoa powder

Directions
  • Step #1 1.
  • Step #2 Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Step #3 Butter & parchment line two 8x2-inch (20x5-cm) baking pans.
  • Step #4 2.
  • Step #5 Measure all ingredients (except the chocolate) into a large mixer bowl.
  • Step #6 3.
  • Step #7 Blend for 30 seconds on LOW speed, scraping bowl constantly.
  • Step #8 4.
  • Step #9 Blend in the melted chocolate & beat 3 mins on HIGH speed, scraping the bowl.
  • Step #10 5.
  • Step #11 Spoon into the pans & level them well with an offset spatula.
  • Step #12 6.
  • Step #13 Bake layers for 45 to 50 mins or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
