Aunt Mary's Italian Biscotti Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla .
  • 3/4 c sugar .
  • 2 tbsps lemon peel (grated) .
  • 1 c almonds (sliced) .
  • 1/2 c butter .
  • 1 tbsp anise seed .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 2 tbsps orange peel (grated) .
  • 3 tsps baking powder .
  • 3 eggs .
  • 3 c flour

Directions
  • Step #1 Cream butter & sugar.
  • Step #2 add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  • Step #3 Add vanilla.
  • Step #4 Sift together flour, baking powder & salt & ad slowly to creamed mixture.
  • Step #5 Stir in lemon & orange peels, anise seeds & nuts & mix well.
  • Step #6 divide dough into 3 parts & shape each into long roll about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
  • Step #7 Place rolls on cookie sheet several inches apart & flatten rolls somewhat.
  • Step #8 Bake at 350F for 15 mins.
  • Step #9 Remove & slice rolls crosswise 3/4 inches.
  • Step #10 Lay cut side down & bake extra 7 mins.
  • Step #11 Flip to other side of cookie & bake another 7 mins.
  • Step #12 Makes approx 4 dozen biscotti.
  • Step #13 ENJOY! Freezes well.
  • Step #14 Note: If you want sweeter, increase sugar to 1 full c.
