Cheese Filled Phyllo Pastry Recipe

Ingredients
  • 8 sheets packaged phyllo dough .
  • 6 oz feta cheese, crumbled .
  • 2 tbsps sliced fresh parsley .
  • 1 egg, beaten .
  • 1 tbsp sliced fresh dill or 1 tsp dried dill .
  • 4 oz cream cheese .
  • 1/2 c butter

Directions
  • Step #1 Defrost the phyllo dough & return the remainder to the freezer.
  • Step #2 Butter a cookie sheet.
  • Step #3 Melt the butter & remove this from the heat.
  • Step #4 Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Step #5 Mix the feta & cream cheese with the egg, parsley, & dill & set aside.
  • Step #6 Layout one sheet of phyllo dough on a counter.
  • Step #7 (Keep the remaining dough covered with a slightly damp towel to prevent its drying out.
  • Step #8 ) Brush the sheet of dough with some melted butter.
  • Step #9 Cut it the short way into 5 strips, about 3x10 inches each.
  • Step #10 Place 1-1/2 tsps of the filling at one end of each strip.
  • Step #11 Roll the strips into cylinders about 1/2 inch in diameter.
  • Step #12 Continue until all of the dough has been cut, filled, & rolled.
  • Step #13 Arrange 2 to 3 cylinder per person on the cookie sheet & brush them with more butter.
  • Step #14 (Freeze the rest of the cylinders, unbaked, for use at another time.
  • Step #15 ) Bake for about 10 mins, or until the cylinders are well browned & very flaky.
  • Step #16 Bureks, frozen unbaked, can go directly from the freezer into a preheated 375-degree F oven to make an instant hors d'oeuvre.
