Honey Cornmeal Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2/3 c cornmeal .
  • 6 1/2-7 c flour .
  • 1/4 c warm water .
  • 1 (1/4 oz) package dry yeast .
  • 2/3 c honey .
  • 3 c milk (scalded) .
  • 3 tbsps butter .
  • 2 tsps salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix the yeast & the warm water together to proof.
  • Step #2 In a separate bowl put the milk, salt, honey, cornmeal, & butter (make sure the butter melts in the hot milk); mix well.
  • Step #3 Add 3 c of the flour & mix well.
  • Step #4 Add the proofed yeast & mix well.
  • Step #5 Add the rest of the flour slowly, mixing to make a good dough.
  • Step #6 Knead for about 10 mins or 100 times.
  • Step #7 Put in oiled bowl & let rise till double.
  • Step #8 Punch down & rise again till double.
  • Step #9 Divide in half & place this in two greased bread pans & rise again.
  • Step #10 Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 mins.
  • Step #11 If the tops get browner than you like during the last part of baking, put foil wrap around them.
