Step #1 Cut apples into approximately 1 inch cubes.
Step #2 Add all ingredients to pot, & turn heat on high.
Step #3 Bring to a boil, then cover & reduce heat to low.
Step #4 Simmer for 20 mins or until the apples have softened significantly.
Step #5 Half way through simmering, you may add sugar or other sweetener if you desire.
Step #6 Stir frequently, making sure that the apples are not sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Step #7 Add more liquid if necessary.
Step #8 Remove lemon slices.
Step #9 Mash with a potato masher or use a food mill for a smoother consistency.
Step #10 Serve warm or at about room temp.
