Chocolate Jubilees Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 1 (16 oz) jar maraschino cherries, drained & sliced
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 tsps baking soda
  • 1 c shortening
  • 1 c baking cocoa
  • 1 c quick-cooking oats
  • 2 c packed brown sugar
  • 1 c butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 c semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tsps almond extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c sliced almonds
  • 4 c all-purpose flour

Directions
  • Step #1 In a mixing bowl, cream butter , shortening & sugars.
  • Step #2 Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Step #3 Beat in extract.
  • Step #4 Combine flour, oats, cocoa, baking soda & salt; slowly add to the creamed mixture.
  • Step #5 Transfer to a larger bowl if necessary.
  • Step #6 Stir in cherries, chocolate chips & almonds if desired.
  • Step #7 Roll into 1-1/2-in.
  • Step #8 balls.
  • Step #9 Place 3 in.
  • Step #10 apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Step #11 Bake at 375 degrees F for 12-14 mins or until the edges are firm.
  • Step #12 Remove to wire racks to cool.
