Bosanski Lonac - Bosnian Pot Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 garlic cloves (sliced) .
  • 2-3 carrots (peeled & cut into bite sized pieces) .
  • 1 cabbage (cut into bite sized wedges) .
  • 1/2 tbsp cooking oil .
  • 1 kg beef or lamb (I used 2 lbs of beef & 1 lb of pork) .
  • white wine .
  • 2 onions (cut up in wedges) .
  • 3-4 large tomatoes (cut up in wedges) .
  • 1/2 tbsp vinegar .
  • salt & pepper .
  • 3-4 large potatoes (peeled & cut up in wedges) .
  • 2 green bell peppers (cut up in wedges) .
  • water

Directions
  • Step #1 Cut up vegetables in large pieces.
  • Step #2 Cut meat in large, bite sized pieces.
  • Step #3 Layer meat & vegetables In a large-ish soup pot.
  • Step #4 (one layer of vegetables, one layer of meat, & so on).
  • Step #5 Add 1-2 dl (deciliters) of white wine & water.
  • Step #6 (I just eyeballed water & wine.
  • Step #7 Added about 1 to 1 1/2 c total).
  • Step #8 Cook until meat & vegetables are cooked.
  • Step #9 (Mine took about 2 1/2 hrs on low to medium heat).
  • Step #10 NOTES: I did not stir this stew.
  • Step #11 I just let the vegetables & meat simmer together & they took care of themselves.
  • Step #12 I did not have to add water or extra wine & it turned out great.
  • Step #13 I also added a few "shakes" of paprika after everything was finished cooking & served with crusty bread.
