Spaghetti And Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 (28 oz) cans hunt's whole tomatoes .
  • 3 tsps salt .
  • 1 lb lean hamburger .
  • 2 eggs .
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced or pressed .
  • 1 tsp black pepper .
  • 2 1/2 links johnsonville Italian sausage .
  • 1 1/2 c sweet onions, sliced .
  • 2 tsps sugar .
  • 6 tbsps olive oil .
  • 2 (12 oz) cans hunt's tomato paste .
  • 2 c Italian seasoned breadcrumbs .
  • 3 tsps basil .
  • 4 c water .
  • 2 bay leaves

Directions
  • Step #1 Saute onions & garlic in olive oil until onions are tender.
  • Step #2 Do not allow the onions or garlic to brown.
  • Step #3 Cut up whole tomatoes, taking care to discard any remaining peels, into 1/2- 3/4 inch pieces.
  • Step #4 Add cut up tomatoes, tomato paste & water to pot.
  • Step #5 Stir until paste is fully dissolved.
  • Step #6 Stir in salt, pepper, basil, bay leaves & sugar.
  • Step #7 Basil can be dried or fresh.
  • Step #8 If fresh basil is used, 10-15 leaves should be used, sliced.
  • Step #9 Adjust heat to a low simmer.
  • Step #10 In a separate bowl, mix hamburger & eggs.
  • Step #11 Add bread crumbs until mixture is sticky, & able to hold a ball shape.
  • Step #12 Roll into 1.
  • Step #13 5 - 2 inch meatballs & add to sauce.
  • Step #14 Add italian sausage to sauce.
  • Step #15 Simmer, stirring regularly for 1 hr.
  • Step #16 Stir carefully at first to avoid deforming the meatballs.
  • Step #17 Be sure to stir with utensil on the bottom of the pot to prevent sauce from sticking & burning.
