Fleischmann's Casserole Cheese Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c cheese, shredded (I like sharp cheddar) .
  • 4 1/2 c flour, sifted .
  • 1 c milk (I use skim, but Mom says whole milk makes the bread come out better.) .
  • 3 tbsps sugar .
  • 1 c warm water (see NOTES below) .
  • 1 tbsp Fleischmann's margarine (I used unsalted butter) .
  • 1 tbsp salt .
  • 2 (1/4 oz) packages Fleischmann's active dry yeast

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Step #2 Grease 1-1/2 quart baking dish or two 9x5x3-inch loaf pans.
  • Step #3 (I used ungreased non-stick loaf pans.
  • Step #4 ).
  • Step #5 Scald milk.
  • Step #6 (To scald, heat milk in non-stick saucepan until milk begins to stick to sides).
  • Step #7 Add sugar, salt, & butter; mix well.
  • Step #8 Set aside to cool until lukewarm.
  • Step #9 Pour WARM water into large bowl & add yeast; stir until dissolved.
  • Step #10 Add lukewarm milk mixture, cheese, & flour.
  • Step #11 Stir until well mixed (about 2 mins).
  • Step #12 Cover up & place bowl in warm draft-free area until dough has risen to more than double in size (about 45 mins).
  • Step #13 Stir batter down.
  • Step #14 Beat vigorously about 2-1/2 mins.
  • Step #15 Pour batter into pan(s).
  • Step #16 Bake uncovered for about 1 hr.
  • Step #17 Cool slightly, then remove this from pan & cool on rack.
  • Step #18 NOTES: Instructions from 1963 yeast pkg - "Dissolve 1 package yeast by stirring into WARM water (105-115 degrees), using amounts specified in recipe.
  • Step #19 Use dissolved yeast as directed.
