Chocolate Cream Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3/4 c milk
  • 3 tbsps butter
  • 1 c cold water
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 1/4 c sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • GLAZE:
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 (18.25 oz) package devil's food cake mix
  • 1/3 c baking cocoa
  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 3 tbsps cornstarch

Directions
  • Step #1 Prepare & bake cake according to package directions, using a greased & floured 13-in.
  • Step #2 x 9-in.
  • Step #3 x 2-in.
  • Step #4 baking pan.
  • Step #5 Cool for 10 mins before inverting onto a wire rack.
  • Step #6 Cool completely.
  • Step #7 For filling, cream the butter, in a large mixing bowl, shortening & sugar until light & fluffy.
  • Step #8 In a small saucepan, heat milk to 140 degrees F; add to the creamed mixture.
  • Step #9 Beat until sugar is dissolved.
  • Step #10 Stir in vanilla.
  • Step #11 Split cake into two horizontal layers; spread filling over bottom cake layer.
  • Step #12 Top with remaining cake layer.
  • Step #13 For glaze, mix the sugar, in a large saucepan, cocoa & cornstarch.
  • Step #14 Gradually add water.
  • Step #15 Bring to a boil; cook & stir for 2 mins or until thickened.
  • Step #16 Remove from the heat; stir in the butter & vanilla until glaze is smooth.
  • Step #17 Cool to lukewarm.
  • Step #18 Spread over top of the cake.
  • Step #19 Let stand until set.
  • Step #20 Refrigerate leftovers.
