Navajo Tacos Recipe

Ingredients
  • fry bread .
  • 1 c sliced onions (approximate) .
  • sour cream (optional) .
  • 2 (8 oz) cans cooked chili (i use homemade) .
  • 2 c shredded lettuce (approximate) .
  • salsa (optional) .
  • 4 c flour .
  • 2 tbsps powdered milk .
  • 1 c sliced tomatoes (approxiate) .
  • 1 tsp salt .
  • 2-3 c lard or oil, for frying the bread .
  • optional ingredients .
  • 2 c shredded cheese (approxiate) .
  • 1 tbsp baking powder .
  • avocados (optional) or guacamole (optional)

Directions
  • Step #1 mix dry ingredients together in large bowl, mix well(i use my hands) dough should be soft & pliable, add 1 1/2 c hot water, cover with plastic wrap & let sit for at least an hr.
  • Step #2 form dough into small balls & pat out on floured surface.
  • Step #3 in hot oil fry bread on both sides til nice & golden brown.
  • Step #4 ( a cast iron skillet is best for the frying, but any heavy duty skillet will work).
  • Step #5 top fry bread with chili, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, onions, & any other taco ingredient that you like.
