Step #1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Step #2 Cream shortening, butter or margarine, & sugar together.
Step #3 Add egg & molasses, mix well.
Step #4 Sift together dry ingredients, add to shortening mixture, alternating with hot water.
Step #5 Mix well.
Step #6 Drop by rounded tsps onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Step #7 Bake 8-10 mins.
Step #8 Remove from cookie sheet, cool.
Step #9 Frost with Butter Frosting & top each cookie with a walnut.
