Pear And Dried-fruit Crisp With Nutmeg-walnut Streusel Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c unsalted butter, room temperature .
  • 3/4 c orange juice .
  • 3/4 c unsalted butter, cut into 12 pieces at about room temp .
  • 3/4 c sugar .
  • 1/4 tsp salt .
  • 1/4 tsp salt .
  • 1 1/2 c dried mixed fruit (9 oz package) .
  • 1 1/2 tsps ground nutmeg .
  • 2 tsps orange peel, finely grated .
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract .
  • 1 1/2 walnuts, sliced .
  • 3 tbsps Amaretto .
  • 1/2 c sugar .
  • lightly sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream .
  • 4 1/2 c pears, peeled, cored, cut into 1 inch cubes .
  • 1 1/4 c all-purpose flour

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 375 F degrees.
  • Step #2 Coat a 12 inch glass baking dish with grease or butter.
  • Step #3 Whisk first 4 ingredients (flour, sugar, nutmeg & salt)in a medium bowl.
  • Step #4 Add butter; rub in with fingers until mixture clumps together.
  • Step #5 Mix in walnuts.
  • Step #6 Place next 6 ingredients (sugar, vanilla, orange juice, orange peel, unsalted butter, salt).
  • Step #7 in large skillet.
  • Step #8 Stir over med-heat/flame until sugar dissolves & mixture comes to a boil.
  • Step #9 Add dried fruit; reduce heat to medium & let simmer until fruit soften & liquid is slightly reduced, about 5 mins.
  • Step #10 Add sliced pears & amaretto.
  • Step #11 Mix completely & let simmer another 5 mins.
  • Step #12 Remove from heat & spread in baking dish.
  • Step #13 Sprinkle top streusel mixture on top.
  • Step #14 Bake until bubbling & golden; about 1 hr.
  • Step #15 Cool & serve warm or at about room temp with whipped cream or ice cream.
