Chruscik Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp rum
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsps sour cream
  • 3 tbsps white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 c confectioners' sugar
  • 1 c vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 9 egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

Directions
  • Step #1 In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until well mixed.
  • Step #2 Add the sour cream, rum, & vanilla, mix until smooth.
  • Step #3 Sift together the flour, baking powder & salt; stir in theto the egg yolk mixture a little at a time.
  • Step #4 Turn the dough out onto a heavily floured surface & knead vigorously for about 1/2 hr.
  • Step #5 Allow the dough to absorb as much of the flour as it can so it is no longer sticky.
  • Step #6 Separate dough into 4 or 5 portions & roll out very thin.
  • Step #7 The dough should be almost as thin as paper, & slightly see-through.
  • Step #8 Cut dough into strips about 1 1/2 inches wide & 4 inches long.
  • Step #9 Make a 1 1/2 inch slit in the strip closer to one end.
  • Step #10 Pull the long end of the strip through the slit.
  • Step #11 Heat the oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Step #12 Fry the cookies quickly, turning once.
  • Step #13 They should be golden but not brown.
  • Step #14 Drain on paper towels & dust with confectioners' sugar when cool.
