Ingredients
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 tsps vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 c whipping cream
  • 2 c half-and-half cream

Directions
  • Step #1 In a heavy saucepan, mix the first five ingredients.
  • Step #2 Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick enough to coat a metal spoon & reaches at least 160 degrees F.
  • Step #3 Remove from the heat; cool quickly by setting pan in ice & stirring the mixture.
  • Step #4 Cover & put in the fridge overnight or freeze as soon as possible.
  • Step #5 When ready to freeze, pour custard & vanilla into the cylinder of an ice cream freezer.
  • Step #6 Freeze according to the manufacturer's directions.
