Barbecued Stromboli Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c parmesan cheese, grated (more or less to taste) .
  • 1 lb bread dough, recipe for one loaf bread .
  • 2 tbsps barbecue sauce (or to taste) .
  • 1/2-1 c mozzarella cheese or cheddar cheese .
  • 2 tbsps butter or margarine, melted .
  • onion powder .
  • garlic powder .
  • 1 (16 oz) package pepperoni slices (you won't use the whole package) .
  • italian seasoning or basil (I use Pasta Sprinkle top)

Directions
  • Step #1 You can use homemade bread dough or frozen bread dough that's been thawed.
  • Step #2 Roll out bread dough to make a rectangle: roughly 18-20" x 10-12" - dough should be thin.
  • Step #3 Melt butter & spread on dough.
  • Step #4 Sprinkle top garlic & onion powder, Italian seasoning & Parmesan cheese over entire surface in the given order.
  • Step #5 Either spread the BBQ sauce over the entire dough or spread it down the middle, whatever your preference.
  • Step #6 Lay the pepperoni the width (long side) of the dough in 2-3 rows.
  • Step #7 Place shredded Mozzarella cheese on top of those layers (be careful not to do it too thick or it will 'run out' while baking).
  • Step #8 Roll up like you would for cinnamon rolls, sealing edges.
  • Step #9 Place seam side down on a cookie sheet lined w/parchment paper.
  • Step #10 Let dough rise 45 mins before baking.
  • Step #11 Cut small slits in the top to vent.
  • Step #12 You may also brush top this with butter & sprinkle w/parmesan cheese if so desired.
  • Step #13 Bake at 350° F for 25 mins.
  • Step #14 Time depends on your oven.
  • Step #15 If taken out too soon, it will be doughy in the middle-outside should be a dark (not burned) golden brown color.
