Cherry Cinnamon Cobbler Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 (16 oz) can pitted tart red cherries
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 2 tbsps cornstarch
  • 1/4 c shortening
  • 2 tbsps milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 c sliced nuts
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 6 tbsps brown sugar, divided
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 2 tbsps red cinnamon candies
  • 1/2 c water

Directions
  • Step #1 Drain cherries, reserving juice.
  • Step #2 In a saucepan, mix sugar, candies & cornstarch.
  • Step #3 Stir in water & juice.
  • Step #4 Cook over med-heat/flame, stirring every once in awhile, until thickened.
  • Step #5 Stir in cherries.
  • Step #6 Pour into an 8-in.
  • Step #7 square baking pan; set aside.
  • Step #8 In a mixing bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, 3 tbsps brown sugar & nuts.
  • Step #9 Cut in shortening until crumbly.
  • Step #10 Add egg & milk; mix until dry ingredients are moistened (add a few drops more milk if necessary).
  • Step #11 Roll out dough; brush with butter.
  • Step #12 Combine cinnamon & remaining brown sugar; sprinkle it over dough.
  • Step #13 Roll up; cut into 16 slices.
  • Step #14 Lay slices over cherry filling.
  • Step #15 Bake at 400F degrees F for 35-30 mins.
  • Step #16 Serve warm.
