Barefoot Contessa's Chive Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c all-purpose flour .
  • 1 tbsp baking powder .
  • 1 tbsp water, for egg wash .
  • 1/2 c sliced fresh chives or fresh parsley .
  • 1 egg, mixed with .
  • 1 tsp kosher salt .
  • 1/4 lb cold unsalted butter, sliced .
  • 1 tsp sugar .
  • 3/4 c half-and-half

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat the oven to 400F degrees.
  • Step #2 Combine the flour, salt, baking powder, & sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
  • Step #3 Add the butter & mix on lowish speed until the butter is the size of peas.
  • Step #4 (This is a very important step for light, fluffy biscuits.
  • Step #5 ).
  • Step #6 With the mixer on low, add the half-and-half & beat until just mixed-do not over-mix.
  • Step #7 Add the chives & mix until just mixd.
  • Step #8 Dump the dough out on a well-floured board & knead lightly into a rectangle 3/4 inch thick.
  • Step #9 Cut out rounds with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter & place on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
  • Step #10 Brush with the egg wash.
  • Step #11 Bake for 20 to 22 mins, until the tops are browned & the insides are firm.
  • Step #12 Serve warm.
