Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
Step #2 Insert about half the cloves into 2 baking apples.
Step #3 Place the apples in a 2-quart square baking dish.
Step #4 Add the water.
Step #5 Bake apples, uncovered, for 15 mins.
Step #6 Add crab apples, if desired.
Step #7 Bake an extra 25 to 30 mins or until apples & crab apples are tender; cool slightly.
Step #8 Halve or quarter baking apples.
Step #9 Set aside.
Step #10 Meanwhile, squeeze juice from oranges & lemons (you should have 1-1/3 c orange juice & 3/4 c lemon juice).
Step #11 In a 4-quart Dutch oven mix orange & lemon juices, allspice, sugar, remaining cloves, apple cider, cinnamon, & nutmeg.
Step #12 Bring to boiling; reduce heat.
Step #13 Simmer, uncovered, for 20 mins.
Step #14 Use a slotted spoon to remove whole cloves & stick cinnamon from cider mixture.
Step #15 To serve, place apples In a large-ish heat-proof punch bowl; carefully pour cider mixture into bowl.
