Candy Cane Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c sifted confectioners' sugar .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 1 egg .
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract .
  • 1/2 tsp red food coloring .
  • 1 1/2 tsps vanilla .
  • 2 1/2 c sifted flour .
  • 1 c butter

Directions
  • Step #1 Beat butter & confectioner's sugar until light & fluffy.
  • Step #2 Beat in egg, vanilla & almond extract until well mixed.
  • Step #3 In a separate bowl, mix flour & salt then add to butter mixture.
  • Step #4 Divide dough in half.
  • Step #5 Blend in food coloring to one half.
  • Step #6 Work with 1/4 of the plain dough & 1/4 of the tinted dough.
  • Step #7 Keep remainder of dough in the refridgerator until ready for use to keep it from drying out while making the cookies.
  • Step #8 Roll 1/4tsp of the plain dough into a 4 inch-long rope.
  • Step #9 Repeat with 1/4 tsps of the tinted dough.
  • Step #10 Holding the ends, twist the two ropes together & place on an ungreased cookie sheet, curving one end to look like a candy cane.
  • Step #11 Repeat placing the cookies 1 inch apart on the cookie sheet.
  • Step #12 Bake at 375°F for about 10 mins.
  • Step #13 Remove as soon as possible from cookie sheet; cool on rack.
