Thick Hot Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar .
  • 1/4 tsp grated orange zest .
  • 2 tbsps half-and-half (divided) .
  • 2 oz bittersweet chocolate, finely sliced (as close to 70 percent cacao as possible) .
  • 3 tsps arrowroot .
  • 2 c half-and-half, plus

Directions
  • Step #1 In a small bowl, mix 2 tbsps of the half-and-half with the arrowroot, whisking until smooth.
  • Step #2 Place the remaining 1/2 c of half-and-half in a small saucepan over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #3 Bring to a simmer.
  • Step #4 When the half-and-half begins to bubble around the edges, whisk in the sugar.
  • Step #5 Whisk in the arrowroot mixture until the half-and-half thickens slightly, usually less than a min.
  • Step #6 Remove from the heat & quickly whisk in the chocolate until smooth.
  • Step #7 Pour into c, top both with a pinch of orange zest, & serve as soon as possible.
