Cottage Pudding Upside Down Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsps butter, melted
  •  
  • 3 apples - peeled, cored & sliced
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsps baking powder

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Pour melted butter into the bottom of an 8 inch square pan.
  • Step #3 Tilt the pan so that it is evenly coated.
  • Step #4 Sprinkle top the brown sugar over the butter.
  • Step #5 Arrange the apple slices to cover the brown sugar, set aside.
  • Step #6 In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening & white sugar.
  • Step #7 Beat in the egg & vanilla until light & fluffy.
  • Step #8 Combine the flour, & salt, baking powder, stir in theto the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
  • Step #9 Pour into the baking pan so that the fruit is completely covered.
  • Step #10 Bake for 40 to 50 mins in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted, comes out clean.
  • Step #11 Immediately invert onto a serving plate.
  • Step #12 Serve warm with ice cream or sauce.
