Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp datil pepper vinegar .
  • 2/3 c brown sugar .
  • 1/8 c melted butter .
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced .
  • 1 tsp dry mustard .
  • 3 tbsps cayenne pepper sauce .
  • 2/3 c ketchup .
  • 1/3 c steak sauce .
  • 1 tsp celery seeds .
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce .
  • 1 medium onion, sliced .
  • 1/2 c red wine .
  • 3/4 c molasses .
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice .
  • 1/8 tsp liquid smoke .
  • 1/4 c bourbon

Directions
  • Step #1 Put onion, steak sauce, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, hot sauce, bourbon & Liquid Smoke in food processor/blender or mixer.
  • Step #2 Puree until smooth.
  • Step #3 Pour into a 2 quart bowl & add in the remaining ingredients.
  • Step #4 If the sauce is too hot, add more brown sugar.
  • Step #5 The bourbon will tend to turn up the heat.
  • Step #6 In a medium saucepan, simmer over low heat/flame for twenty mins.
  • Step #7 Do not allow it to boil.
  • Step #8 Cool to about room temp.
  • Step #9 For the best results, put in the fridge overnight to allow the flavors to mix.
  • Step #10 Will keep for up to a week in the refrigerator.
  • Step #11 A note: this sauce has a very high sugar content (check out the carbs!), & should be put on the meat when it is almost done.
  • Step #12 If a flareup occurs, move the meat to the side of the grill or off completely until it dies down, or the sauce will caramelize.
