Sweet Ramadan Dumplings " Lokmit Ady" Recipe

Ingredients
  • Syrup .
  • 1 c water .
  • 1 lemon, juice of, squeezed .
  • 1 tsp sugar .
  • 3 1/2 c plain flour .
  • 2 1/2 c lukewarm water .
  • Dumplings .
  • 2 c sugar .
  • corn oil (for frying) .
  • 1/4 oz plain dried yeast

Directions
  • Step #1 Making the dumplings:.
  • Step #2 Sift the flour into a large warm mixing bowl.
  • Step #3 Dissolve the yeast in 1/4 c of the lukewarm water add sugar & set aside until the mixture rises & foams.
  • Step #4 Beat all remaining ingredients into the yeast mixture.
  • Step #5 Gradually beat in the flour until the mixture becomes a sticky batter.
  • Step #6 Cover up with a damp towel & set in a warm place to rise, approximately 1 1/4 hrs.
  • Step #7 Beat mixture well every 15 mins for the first hr.
  • Step #8 Add about 2 inches of oil to a pot suitable for deep frying & heat until very hot.
  • Step #9 Use a wet tsp to drop spoonfuls of dough into the pot.
  • Step #10 When the dough balls swell & rise to the top, reduce the heat to medium & cook this until crisp & golden brown.
  • Step #11 Cooking time is about 5 mins per batch.
  • Step #12 The balls should be a nice golden brown color & crispy on the outside, but not burnt.
  • Step #13 Remove the dough balls from the skillet & drain on a paper towel.
  • Step #14 While they are still hot, dip them briefly into the syrup.

  • Step #16 Dissolve sugar in water in a pot over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #17 Once fully dissolved & starts to thicken, add lemon juice.
  • Step #18 Bring to boil.
