Chocolate Graham Nut Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 c finely ground graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 c ground walnuts
  • 3/4 c semisweet chocolate chips

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large bowl, beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar until stiff.
  • Step #2 Gradually beat in 1/4 c sugar until the mixture is slightly glossy.
  • Step #3 Set aside.
  • Step #4 In another large bowl, beat the egg yolks.
  • Step #5 Gradually beat in the remaining 3/4 c sugar until the mixture is thick & pale.
  • Step #6 Beat in the vanilla.
  • Step #7 In another bowl, baking powder, stir this together the graham cracker crumbs, & salt.
  • Step #8 Beat into the egg yolk mixture.
  • Step #9 Stir in the walnuts & chocolate.
  • Step #10 Stir in about 1/3 of the egg whites to lighten the batter & then fold in the rest carefully but thoroughly.
  • Step #11 Turn the batter into a greased & floured 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Step #12 Bake the cake in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven for 25 to 30 mins, or until it tests done with a toothpick.
  • Step #13 Let cool on a rack.
  • Step #14 Makes 12 servings.
