Chocolate Hazelnut Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3 c heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 c finely sliced toasted hazelnuts
  • 1 (18.25 oz) package devil's food cake mix
  • 1/4 c water
  • 1 1/2 c semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (3.9 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 12 hazelnuts

Directions
  • Step #1 Prepare cake mix according to package directions, vanilla, using required ingredients, plus pudding mix, & an extra 1/4 c of water.
  • Step #2 Spread batter evenly among three greased & floured 9 inch cake pans.
  • Step #3 Bake at temperature specified on cake mix box for 18 to 22 mins, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Step #4 Let cakes cool completely, then chill in refrigerator for 30 mins.
  • Step #5 In a double boiler over simmering water, melt chocolate chips.
  • Step #6 Gradually add 1/4 c of the whipping cream, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Step #7 Remove from heat & let cool to about room temp.
  • Step #8 Beat 3/4 c of whipping cream until soft peaks form.
  • Step #9 Fold the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture.
  • Step #10 Stir in 1/2 c of the finely sliced hazelnuts.
  • Step #11 Chill 30 mins.
  • Step #12 Beat remaining 2 c of whipping cream until soft peaks form, then fold in the remaining 1/2 c of sliced hazelnuts.
  • Step #13 Chill until ready to frost cake.
  • Step #14 Place 1 cake layer on cake plate.
  • Step #15 Spread 1/2 of the chilled chocolate mixture over top.
  • Step #16 Add another cake layer.
  • Step #17 Spread with other 1/2 of chocolate mixture.
  • Step #18 Top with last cake layer.
  • Step #19 Frost entire cake with hazelnut-whipped cream.
  • Step #20 Place 12 whole hazelnuts around top outer edge of cake as a garnish.
  • Step #21 This cake should be kept in the refrigerator.
