Old World Hungarian Goulash Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 large red onion, sliced .
  • 1 tsp pepper .
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz) can beef broth .
  • 3 tbsps all-purpose flour .
  • 1 tbsp paprika .
  • 1 c cold water .
  • 1/8 tsp liquid smoke .
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into strips .
  • 1 (6 oz) can can tomato paste .
  • 1 tbsp butter .
  • 3 garlic cloves, sliced .
  • 2 (14 1/2 oz) cans crushed tomatoes .
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef .
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce .
  • 16 oz elbo macaroni, package, Partially cooked according to directions .
  • 1 tsp season salt .
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat butter In a large-ish skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Step #2 Cook beef in butter, stirring every once in awhile, until lightly browned.
  • Step #3 Do not drain.
  • Step #4 Place beef & sliced onion in a slow cooker (aka crockpot).
  • Step #5 Mix partially cooked elbo macarroni, garlic, beef broth, crushed tomatoes, liquid smoke, season salt, tomato paste, paprika, salt, Worcestershire sauce, & pepper; stir in theto beef mixture.
  • Step #6 Cover up & cook on low heat 4-5 hrs (I always use the longer cook time).
  • Step #7 Mix water & flour; slowly stir in theto beef mixture.
  • Step #8 Stir in green pepper.
  • Step #9 Cover up & cook on high heat 30 mins.
  • Step #10 Serve with a dolop of sourcream atop.
