Shanghai Pasta (with Shrimp And Sweet Bell Peppers) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c green beans, the slender kind, cut in half (or you may substitute 1 c pea pods) .
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced .
  • SAUCE .
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted .
  • 8 oz dried fettuccine pasta (or other type such as Linguine, Fusilli, etc.) .
  • 1/2 medium red bell pepper, seeds & ribs removed, thinly sliced .
  • MAIN DISH .
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil .
  • 2 green onions, bias-sliced into 1-inch pieces .
  • 1/2 medium yellow bell pepper, seeds & ribs removed, thinly sliced .
  • 1 tbsp bottled plum sauce .
  • GARNISH .
  • 1/2 tsp red chili paste (optional) .
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (or you may substitute 1/2 tsp. ginger root powder) .
  • 2 tbsps cooking oil .
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper .
  • 3 tbsps soy sauce .
  • 12 oz frozen large shrimp, without tails (peeled, deveined & thawed, 26 to 30 shrimp per lb count)

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix ingredients for the sauce (listed above) & set aside.
  • Step #2 Cook pasta according to package directions.
  • Step #3 Drain & keep warm.
  • Step #4 In a large skillet or wok, cook & stir green beans & sweet peppers in hot oil for five mins.
  • Step #5 Push veggies to the side if using a wok.
  • Step #6 Otherwise pour them in with the pasta to free up the skillet.
  • Step #7 Add a little oil to the skillet if needed, to continue.
  • Step #8 Add the garlic, ginger, & black pepper.
  • Step #9 When oil is hot, add the shrimp & cook over med-heat/flame for 2-3 mins or until they are opaque.
  • Step #10 Add sauce to skillet.
  • Step #11 (If substituting pea pods for green beans, add them now too).
  • Step #12 Finally, add pasta, green beans & sweet peppers back into the skillet & heat through.
  • Step #13 To serve, top this with sesame seeds & green onions.
