Cabernet Chocolate Cake With Strawberries Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsps butter, softened .
  • 1 tsp vanilla .
  • 1 tsp vanilla .

  • 1/2 c mayonnaise or sour cream .

  • 1 c cabernet sauvignon wine .
  • powdered sugar (to garnish) .
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips .
  • glaze .
  • 2 tbsps cabernet sauvignon wine .
  • strawberries (to garnish) .
  • 1/2 c heavy cream .
  • 1 (18 oz) box devil's food cake mix .
  • 4 eggs

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350.
  • Step #2 Grease & lightly flour cake pan(s).
  • Step #3 Mix eggs & mayo with electric mixer until smooth.
  • Step #4 Add wine & beat until mixd.
  • Step #5 Add cake mix, salt & vanilla & beat for 3 mins.
  • Step #6 Pour into pan(s) & bake according to box directions, but check 5-10 min early as this cake tends to bake "fast".
  • Step #7 When cake is almost cool make glaze as follows:.
  • Step #8 Melt chocolate chips in microwave or double boiler being careful not to burn.
  • Step #9 If microwaving, start with about 45 sec.
  • Step #10 , stir & continue in 10 sec.
  • Step #11 increments.
  • Step #12 , stirring after each.
  • Step #13 Whisk in butter, cream, salt & vanilla one at a time.
  • Step #14 Cool slightly, then drizzle over cake.
  • Step #15 Arrange strawberries whole or sliced, whatever looks pretty to you, over & around the cake & drizzle a bit more chocolate over them if you like.
  • Step #16 The glaze & berries are a good combination on their own! Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
