Ingredients
Topping .
1/2 c packed light-brown sugar .
1/2 c granulated sugar .
1/2 tsp baking soda .
1/3 c packed light-brown sugar .
1/3 c granulated sugar .
1 c buttermilk .
1/4 tsp salt .
1/8 tsp salt .
2 1/4 c all-purpose flour .
6 tbsps cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces .
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice .
6 tbsps unsalted butter, at room temp .
1 2/3 c walnuts, coarsely sliced .
Cake .
1-2 tbsp milk .
2 tsps pumpkin pie spice .
1 c confectioners' sugar .
2 eggs .
1 tsp baking powder .
1 tsp vanilla extract .
2/3 c all-purpose flour
Directions
Step #1 Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step #2 Coat an 8-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Step #3 Topping: In a medium bowl stir this together flour, sugars, pumpkin pie spice & salt.
Step #4 With a pastry cutter,cut butter into the mixture.
Step #5 Stir in walnuts.
Step #6 Refrigerate.
Step #7 Cake: In a large bowl, baking soda, whisk together the flour, baking powder, pumpking pie spice & salt.
Step #8 Set aside.
Step #9 In another large bowl, beat butter & sugars on medium speed until creamy & mixed, about 3 mins.
Step #10 Beat in eggs, one at a time.
Step #11 Add vanilla & beat until smooth.
Step #12 On lowish speed, beat in the flour mixture in three additions, alternating with buttermilk.
Step #13 Beat for 2 mins.
Step #14 Spoon half of the batter into the prepared pan.
Step #15 Sprinkle top half of the topping over the batter.
Step #16 Spoon remaining batter over topping.
Step #17 Sprinkle top remaining topping over top of cake.
Step #18 Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 to 60 mins or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
Step #19 Cool completely on wire rack.
Step #20 Loosen edges with a knife or small spatula.
Step #21 Cut into 12 equal pieces.
Step #22 In a small bowl, mix together confectioners' sugar & just enough milk to get a good drizzling consistency.
Step #23 Drizzle over cake squares & allow to set before serving.
