Creamy Potato Gratin Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper .
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced .
  • 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter .
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme, sliced .
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt .
  • 1 c heavy cream (or whipping cream) .
  • 1/4 c freshly grated romano cheese .
  • 1 lb yukon gold potatoes, peeled, thinly sliced

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees; butter a 1 1/2 quart gratin dish.
  • Step #2 In large skillet, melt butter over medium high heat.
  • Step #3 Reduce heat to medium; add onion & cook, stirring every once in awhile, about 10 mins, or until golden.
  • Step #4 Stir in thyme.
  • Step #5 Remove skillet from heat, set aside.
  • Step #6 In medium saucepan, bring cream to boil.
  • Step #7 Stir in potatoes & cook 5 mins, or until potatoes are just tender.
  • Step #8 Stir in salt & pepper.
  • Step #9 With slotted spoon, alternately layer potatoes, onion mixture & cheese in prepared dish.
  • Step #10 Drizzle any remaining cream mixture from pan over gratin.
  • Step #11 Bake 35-40 mins, or until top is golden brown.
