Balti Chicken With Tarka Dhal Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 large onion, sliced .
  • 1 green chilies, seeded & sliced .
  • 1 1/2 tsps salt .
  • 8 oz skinless chicken breasts, & cubed .
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced .
  • 1 1/2 tsps chili powder .
  • 2 dried red chilies, sliced .
  • 2 tomatoes, peeled & thickly sliced .
  • 1 tsp ginger, pulp .
  • 1 tsp garam masala .
  • 3 tbsps fresh coriander leaves, sliced .
  • 2 tbsps lemon juice .
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander .
  • 1/2 pint water .
  • 1 tsp oil .
  • 4 curry leaves .
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric .
  • 1 oz split peas, presoaked .
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds .
  • 1 tbsp oil .
  • 1 tsp garlic, pulp .
  • 2 oz red lentils

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix together the split peas & the lentils, cover with water & cook till soft & mushy.
  • Step #2 In the meantime heat the oil in a wok andfry the onions till golden.
  • Step #3 Stir in the garlic, ginger , turmeric, garam masala, chilli powder, ground coriander & salt.
  • Step #4 Stir well & add the chicken & fry for 6 mins.
  • Step #5 Add 11/2 tbsp of the fresh coriander leaves, green chilli, lemon juice & the water cook for 5 mins Mix in the lentils (dhal),tomatoes & the remaining coriander leaves.
  • Step #6 Turn off the heat.
  • Step #7 Heat the oil in a small pan & add the cumin seeds, red chillies, & the curry leaves, when they syart to pop add the garlic, cook for 1 min Pour over the the chicken & lentils & serve.
