Step #2 In a small metal bowl set over barely simmering water melt 3/4 c of the chocolate chips and the butter, stirring until the mixture is smooth.
Step #3 In a bowl whisk together the egg, & fold in the flour, & the vanilla until the mixture is foamy, the sugar, whisk in the chocolate mixture & a pinch of salt, whisking until the mixture is smooth, the remaining 1/4 c chocolate chips, & the walnuts.
Step #4 Spoon the batter into the pan, spreading it evenly, & bake the torte in the middle of a preheated 350F.
Step #5 oven for 15 to 20 mins, or until a tester comes out clean.
Step #6 Transfer the torte to a rack, cut into wedges, let it cool for 10 mins, & serve it warm, with the ice cream.
