Chile Tempura Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tb Water
  • 4 lg Poblano chiles; seeded, and cut into 1/2" strips
  • 1/4 c Vegetable oil
  • 1/4 c Cornmeal
  • Salt; to taste

Directions
  • Step #1 Whisk together the egg & water in a medium bowl.
  • Step #2 Coat the chile strips in the egg mixture, then set aside.
  • Step #3 Place the cornmeal in a bowl next to the chile strips.
  • Step #4 Heat the oil in a large heavy skillet until hot.
  • Step #5 Coat half the chile strips with cornmeal & add to the oil.
  • Step #6 Fry over med-heat/flame until golden, about 2 mins.
  • Step #7 Drain on paper towels.
  • Step #8 Fry the other half of the strips & drain.
  • Step #9 Salt to taste.
