Two; slices of fresh gingerroot, flattened with the flat side of a large knife
2 tb Medium-dry Sherry
1/2 ts Cornstarch dissolved in 1 tbsp cold water
A 3-inch cinnamon stick; broken into large pieces
1 c Water
1/2 lb Turnips; cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 1/2 ts Sugar
Cooked rice as an accompaniment if desired
1 tb sliced fresh coriander or parsley leaves for garnish if desired
1/2 ts Salt
1/8 ts Aniseed
2 tb Soy sauce
Directions
Step #1 In a 1 1/2-quart microwave-safe dish stir this together the water, the sugar, spreading it evenly, & microwave the mixture, & the aniseed, the salt, add the chuck, the soy sauce, the cinnamon, the Sherry, covered, the gingerroot, at high power (100%) for 20 mins.
Step #2 stir in the the turnips & microwave the mixture, covered, at high power for 15 mins.
Step #3 Stir the cornstarch mixture, stir it into the stew, covered, and microwave the stew, at high power for 2 mins.
Step #4 Sprinkle top the stew with the coriander & serve it with the rice.
