Chocolate Ribbon Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 lg Strawberries - ; preferably long
  • 1 c Cabernet Sauvignon; Pinot Noir, Zinfandel,
  • 2 oz Bittersweet chocolate; finely sliced
  • 1 pt Strawberries; hulled, and
  • 1/2 c Sugar
  • Thinly sliced lengthwise
  • Or other dry red wine
  • Stemmed; for garnish
  • 1 tb Vanilla extract

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix the sugar with the red wine & vanilla in a large bowl.
  • Step #2 Add the strawberries.
  • Step #3 Marinate for 2 hrs at about room temp.
  • Step #4 Melt the chocolate in the top of a double boiler above carefully simmering water & stir until smooth.
  • Step #5 Strain the strawberry mixture, reserving the strawberries.
  • Step #6 Heat the marinating liquid in a medium saucepan to the same temperature as the chocolate.
  • Step #7 Whisk several tbsps of the marinating liquid into the chocolate & stir until smooth, then slowly whisk in the remaining liquid.
  • Step #8 Strain back into the bowl through a fine sieve.
  • Step #9 Cool to about room temp.
  • Step #10 Add the reserved strawberries.
  • Step #11 put in the fridge until well chilled, for about 4 to 6 hrs.
  • Step #12 To serve, ladle the soup into 4 soup plates.
  • Step #13 Garnish each with a long-stemmed strawberry.
  • Step #14 This recipe yields 4 to 6 servings.
